It's moreso an experiment. I think Google is just trying to get us developers thinking outside our preconceived models. It doesn't look very HTML5 to me. Not very useful as a template for production use. It is mighty pretty, though.

Essentially this is an attempt to take a reader options paradigm and generically apply to a writer options choices. Dynamic views are for readers not writers (designers, developers). The only true advantage might be in management end for the service involved and not for readers or writer.

The current template system was a step down in design options. It did provide easier options for the design/development challenged, and that was good. But in its automation, it introduced considerable complications for innovation in blog design. Dynamic views push the cons more than the pros another set down that road.
